Northwest Indiana: Urgent Radical Gathering, October 11th
To Northwest Indiana Radicals: Urgent Gathering, Callout requested
We all seem to intuitively know the severity of things to come: 60% of Americans believe we are headed for an all-out economic depression, discontent with electoral politics is on the rise, and even the captains of industry are making out with as much as they can before the stuff hits the fan.
Unless this frustration and disillusionment are channeled into something utterly new and novel, a New Politics, the sway of the status quo will come back and captivate the masses to return to complacent subservience. While many clearly oppose what stands to an extent (for some racism, others sexism, still others homophobia, many its state-capitalism), the identity politics based ideologies of today - everybody respects the Other but doesn't come to affiliate or build solidarity with them - prevent a coalition from organizing opposition. Unless environmentalists with all workers, people of all colors and creeds with feminists, anti-capitalists and gays alike, come together and provide a new plural, participatory democratic forum, in which differences can truly express themselves without subordination and issues addressed adequately and resolutely, no revolutionary Subject will come forth and establish itself in concrete contradistinction to the Empire (though a Subject is by no means resolvable to the One, but is always split or a multiplicity; no Party or figure can represent it). Unless the new structures are developed now to point forward beyond today, our vision will be derided as "naive Utopianism" by the powers that be and many in the general populace.
Concrete struggles and lasting successes are what we are looking to accomplish, and this forum will be one of many beginnings (as Deleuze would put it, everything is an aborted start, and nothing a final end; there are only becomings) that will try to channel the drives of people in creative ways into actualized movements. We are not content with merely talking about revolution, dreaming of the day to come and reminiscing on the events of years past (which is not to say we don't have our fair share in such fantasies). We want action, we want hope, and most importantly, we want to have fun!
Come for the politics, stay for the conviviality, leave with sense of "Now or Never!"
