Starbucks Protest!

Starbucks claims to be a "socially responsible" company. The facts prove otherwise. They have signed 6 settlement agreements with the National Labor Relations Board in the last 3 years claiming they would end anti-union intimidation. Only a couple percent of Starbucks coffee is certified Fair Trade - showing their willful neglect of coffee farmers supplying them beans is just as rampant as it is for the baristas who serve their coffee.

Join current and former baristas as we demand:

  • Reinstatement of ALL wrongfully terminated baristas
  • End anti-union intimidation
  • Pay baristas and coffee farmers more than poverty wages

I was walking through New York’s Astor Place a couple of hours ago and I came across a large protest that was being broken up the NYPD at Tony Rosenthal’s spinning “Alamo” cube sculpture. It turns out that right before I arrived, Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping had invaded the Starbucks across the street and Reverend Billy was arrested and taken to NYPD’s 9th Precinct. I shot a few photos of the aftermath.
