Creating More Midwest ActionTouched on a bit within the discussions at the 2007 Great Lakes Anarchist Gathering, were ways to expand anarchy in the Midwest/Great Lakes region. I thought perhaps we could expand on those thoughts here. What do we want to do? A few proposals of mine: 1. Assistance for new groups/collectives/projects. Any more ideas or thoughts about these?

number two
2,propaganda and such...
i have worked on the first and soon to come second issue of the Black Swamp Herzschlag...which is a zine mostly distributed in Bowling Green, Ohio.
anyway, the people that were helping me with that have all moved away from the midwest. i plan on finishing the second issue but afterwords stopping unless i can find others to help me. I think Type A does a good job though and it is close enough to BG. maybe it could cover the slack.
to the point;
If there are other zinesters, journalists, writers and artists out there that would be interested on working on a Journal of some sort for radical anti-authoritarianism in the midwest or great lakes area more specifically. that is a project i would be interested in working on...and would help get started. We could arrange a couple face to face meetings, and then do most work over the web and then distribute it diy style in our various localities. Even if it would be just Ohio, or Ohio and Michigan, Indiana...something like that. let me know if anyone has the interest. Print media of an anarchist flavor needs to be rebooted some, and god, print media is so much nicer than a computer screen (computer screens hurt my eyes when used for too long).
How to Suspend/Unsuspend Access
Admin log in
goto "administration" "access control"
For anonymous users, the following must be checked for access:
create events, edit own events
create book pages, edit own book pages
access comments, post comments
create forum topics, edit own forum topics
create images, edit own images, view original images
create stories, edit own stories
For Collapse (and others) with admin access, feel free to experiment with the access control.
Things we may need to open access without visible spam problems: a 'submission queue" for content, update captcha for comments, a submission queue for comments. This won't get rid of spam, just visible spam. Admins will have to regularly approve content and comments. However, if anyone has the free time to open unmoderated posting and clean out the spam as it appears, feel free to make the attempt.
I will talk with midwestadmin, who may have the email list and try to bring the list forward.
Currently, I've suspended
Currently, I've suspended non-registered use of the site, though I don't like it, it is necessary to cut out the spam and keep the site functional. I am working on a way to re-open the site, I'll talk to some people and hopefully we can change this back. I never received the email list, I don't know who has it, but I and Midwestadmin can be reached at info@cbusimc.org
I've noticed suspending
I've noticed suspending anonymous posts have greatly reduced this, and since I'm on quite a bit, I hope to start taking care of it before it gets out of hand like it does some times. Ah, the hastle of open websites, right?
Was it a Toledo or Columbus local that ended up with the list, or am I mistaken?
I took the list and gave it
I took the list and gave it to a Arawak City(Columbus) person. It is still working its way to the computer.
I want to comment on #1:
I want to comment on #1: assiantance for new groups/collectives/projects.
I think this is a good idea because there are many areas in the Great Lakes/Mid West region that have little if any anarchist activity. If people from more active cities could work with interested people from inactive cities, overall activity could be expanded and the necessary knowledge could be shared to keep the projects running.
I'm near cincinnati right now and I think they do not have an active Food Not Bombs or Indymedia. I may talk to some people this week about that.
I mean, in helping with say
I mean, in helping with say a Food Not Bombs, an experienced group could come down, hang out with locals very interested, and discuss what they do. Afterwards, they could make the visits and calls all around town to potential food donators, which is the hardest part of FNB from my experience. Help with banners, utensils from other areas, and anything else.
Before or after some protests (and something we should do before/after the next GLAG) groups that are still in town will help the local collectives in the community gardens, renovating infoshops, etc.
With all of these though, the locals have to be committed. I mean, it's enough of a burn out in your own community when things don't work, just imagine if we traveled everywhere and groups died within a few weeks?
That's another thing, what sort of Midwest IMC's are there?
I think I have a solution to
I think I have a solution to my own problem (we go help a group, they end up dying in a few weeks). If they (the group people are coming to help) set up an itinerary what people coming from out of town should help with and post it up, it would help. That way, people that determine the group means business can come and help out. Reasonable?
IMCs
That sounds reasonable.
You asked about IMCs, in Ohio there is

If I wanted to start one, where do I begin?
I'd recommend checking out
I'd recommend checking out indymedia.org and going through the process. It could take a while, it took cbusimc over a year.
