Clandestinity Comes to Cincinnati

Clandestinity Comes to Cincinnati

Thursday May 31st at 7pm at the IWW General Headquarters Ramor Ryan gave a presentation about his book “Clandestines: The Pirate Journals of an Irish Exile.” The presentation was preceded by a lovely meal from Cincinnati Food Not Bombs. “As a long-term strategy, Clandestinity is about protecting ourselves, our rebel spaces and allowing the seed to germinate underground. This is a lesson learned with powerful consequences in Chiapas." Raynor has traveled far and wide to be involved in the struggle against capitalism and corporate globalization. While in the United States the anti-capitalist movement suffers from setbacks and confusion, Raynor revealed that in Latin America and other regions around the world, there is still a vibrant culture of resistance against the global social order. Raynor made it a point to allot time to the local scene to discuss organizing and tactics to strengthen the local community. Cincinnati is home to the headquarters of the Industrial Workers of the World, where they have a community center that has access to copy machines, the internet, a kitchen and a large meeting space. The IWW organizes workers without regard to race, gender, class or sexual orientation. Cincinnati also has a Books For Prisoners chapter and a Food Not Bombs. The IWW is interested in giving people the opportunity to launch new projects from their space.
